• How persistent are these changes to the river-riparian system? 
• What longer-term climatic conditions have been associated with extreme floods and lasting changes to streams? 
• Will our now rapidly warming climate increase the probability of extreme floods?

Grant Meyer is Professor Emeritus in Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of New Mexico, and studied geosciences at University of Idaho, Montana State, and UNM. His specialty is geomorphology, the study of landforms and the processes that shape them. He has particular interests in rivers, processes of erosion, and the influence of climate on mountain landscapes. Since 1983, he has conducted research in Yellowstone on a variety of topics, including deformation in the Yellowstone caldera, the relationships between wildfires, erosion, and climate change, the effects of beaver damming and loss of beaver on small streams of Yellowstone's Northern Range, and the history, impacts, and climatic drivers of extreme floods on Soda Butte Creek and the Lamar River, the focus of this seminar.
